Terrorists On Parade

The news of the past week has convinced me that terrorists and the American judicial system are a mix that can only mean bad things for our national security.  First, Nidal Hasan's attorney is preparing to mount an insanity defense.  Yes, terrorists are insane.  Anyone who believes that killing yourself and a bunch of other people will get you into heaven, much less a special place there, is out of his fricking mind.  However, that does not mean that they get to escape punishment for their murderous acts.  Is there any way to charge this lawyer with some kind of crime? I'm being serious here.

Secondly, this absurd Soviet-style show trials of the 9/11 masterminds really is absurd.  The only way to give these criminals against humanity any more of a platform to spew their hate for the western way of life would be to put them on a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with a megaphone.  Heck, I wouldn't put that past Attorney General Holder right now.

On a lighter note (just about anything would be right now), congratulations to 4-time consecutive NASCAR Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Green Absurdity

Does anyone find it funny that Universal is having their "Green Week" right as a tree has been cut down, festooned with a not-exactly-energy-efficient amount of lighting, and placed outside their headquarters?  Maybe they can make up for it by only broadcasting to energy-efficient TVs.  They wouldn't lose any of the California market and, really, does anyone watch NBC anyways?

GOP Absurdity

Bob Taft's run as Ohio governor was mainly a stain on the Grand Old Party's reputation, but one of the highlights of his administration was the Third Frontier program to develop a technology industry in Ohio.  Its been one of the few government programs to actually have a positive economic impact on the state.  Now the Republicans in the statehouse want to delay renewing its funding so that Gov. Strickland can't claim it as a victory in his re-election campaign in the fall.  First, the Republicans have always supported the Third Frontier far more than the Democrats, so any GOP cnadidate for governor would have far more credibility than Strickland in running on the issue.  Second, the Strickland administration has been such a disaster that, short of curing cancer or AIDS, I don't think there is an accomplishment that could keep him in office past next January.

Quick Hits - Memos to the White House

Memo to President Barack Obama - Propping up our unmanageable debt requires kissing Hu Jintao's butt, not Emperor Akihito's feet.

Memo to Vice President Joe Biden - That golf course is "Members Only," not "Members Only Unless You Are A Long-Winded Bore With The Biggest Do-Nothing Sinecure Position In The History Of American Government."

Welcome to the hairpin!

Hello and welcome to The View From The Hairpin.  This blog will focus on the absurdities of politics, most notably on the liberal side, but with a definite willingness to point out when the Republican party has lost its mind.  Hopefully, my posts will make you laugh and think, just don't give yourself a headache doing it all at once.
